David Law is a partner in Gowling WLG’s Employment, Labour & Equalities group. David is leader of the national OHS practice and executive editor of the Employment, Labour & Equalities newsletter. He practices out of both the Ottawa and Toronto offices.
David provides advice and advocacy to organizations in matters of crisis management, employment, labour, occupational safety, construction, human rights and workers’ compensation. He has a strong non-profit clientele and also advises on governance matters.
David was successful at the Supreme Court of Canada in a significant federal labour law matter. He has also appeared at the Ontario Court of Appeal, Superior Court and Provincial Court, boards of arbitration, the Canada Industrial Relations Board, the Ontario Labour Relations Board, the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, coroner’s inquests and the Workplace Safety & Insurance Appeals Tribunal.
Among his non-profit activities, David is board chair of the Ottawa Food Bank, one of the country’s largest food charities. He also teaches at the Queen’s University Faculty of Law. In addition, he has served as a policy adviser to the governments of Ontario, Nova Scotia and British Columbia and was Chair of Government Relations for the Canada and Ontario human resources professionals associations.
